Rumusan : In this book, the focus is on five major insect pests i.e bagworms, rhinoceros beetles, nettle caterpillars, bunch moths and termites, which are common in oil palm plantations. The fundamental aspects of each insect pest, covering the biology, life cycle, mode of spread, distribution, integrated pest management system as well as control measures and economic impact, are presented in simple terms for readers to easily comprehend. These findings are by no means complete and there is still room for further improvement. Nevertheless, the information provided here will certainly support and complement the existing pest management programmes within the current plantation Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). Information provided in this book will still instill awareness on the important of keeping the oil palms ecosystem stable and harmony. More importantly, sustainable insect pest management forms and integral part of the principles and criteria within the MPOB Codes of Practice (CoP), as well as the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) and Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certifications. This book will benefit not only the oil palm plantations sector, but will also inspire others in implementing sustainable insect pest management of other crops.
